Frequently Asked Questions

General

Do you teach group lessons?

Yes, group lessons are available.

Is my child safe?

Yes. All teachers and staff that operate at Off Centre must have completed an up to date working with children check. If you wish to check this information for your specific teacher please contact us.

Do you offer performance opportunities?

Yes! We love to perform! We have various performance opportunities throughout the year We also encourage students to participate in competitions once they are ready.

What if I don't like my teacher?

While we are confident that you will love our teachers but if for any reason there are any personality clashes our teachers are professionals and will understand if a student would like to try someone that may suite their personality better. We advise to give feedback directly to the teacher after a lesson to make sure that any issues are identified and hopefully resolved before it comes to this.

Are lessons private?

Yes. Our lessons are held in a sound proof room and parents are not permitted in the room unless invited. We may make exemptions occasionally for new students who may not feel confident to be alone with a stranger however we ask that parents do not intend to sit in on classes. Our studio is almost soundproof however a small amount of sound can be heard through the door if the rest of the studio is quiet.

Can parents sit in and watch the lesson?

Unless absolutely necessary we prefer that parents are not in the room while lessons are taking place. We find that students with parents sitting in do not give their 100% and are embarrassed easily. During a trial lesson we are happy for a parent or guardian to be present.

Can I take fortnightly lessons?

Our lessons are weekly only. We find the best education comes from weekly constant practise.

I have an audition coming up, can you help?

If our schedule permits we can offer a casual class for an upcoming event or audition. Our teachers have been there before and can help with the process. Ongoing classes are always recommended for building skills and a repertoire for the auditions that may follow in the future.

Im doing my HSC, can you help?

Of Course! Both Jayde and Ryan have completed music for their HSC and both achieving a score of 94. They both have knowledge of the HSC process and are able to offer advice during their lessons.

Do you do exams?

We do not offer exams at this stage however it is something we are looking into offering an an option in the future.

Where are you located?

We are located at 1/72 Argyle Street South Windsor NSW. Our studio is just a few hundred metres past Windsor RSL.

What time are your classes on?

Our private and group lessons run from Monday-Friday from 3:30pm-9pm

Singing lessons

What style of singing do you teach?

Our teachers are professionals in everything they do. We teach the style that best suits your voice, your taste and your style.

What if I'm nervous about singing in front of someone?

You would not be alone. Many students are nervous singing in front of someone for the first time but that is what we are here for! It is our job to help overcome it! We want you to be comfortable so we make sure never to pressure you or make you feel anything other than positive during and after a lesson.

I really want to do singing lessons but I am really nervous to perform. Do I have to perform?

You do not have to perform however we strongly encourage it. If you are not ready then you are not ready and that is okay. We will never pressure you into performing if you are not ready to do so.

Do I need to have a singing teacher the same gender as me?

Not really. When it comes to the comfort of our students, we find that most younger students prefer a teacher of the same gender however this does not mean that they are any more suitable to teach than a teacher of opposite gender.

I can already sing, Why would I need lessons?

Singing lessons are like guided practice where our expert teachers will offer advice and the tools to get better. There is always room for growth and having someone else there with you while you are developing further is wonderful.

Will my child sing age appropriate songs?

Yes. We believe that a child should sing songs that they have a connection to. If a child requests a song that we do not feel is appropriate we will always ask the parents permission before proceeding.

What age should I start singing?

Singing isn't something that everyone can do naturally so starting at a younger age is ideal however you are never too old to start. Our vocal chords are muscles and only practise and patience will create a singing voice.

Getting started

What do we do in a lesson?

Our lessons consist of Warmups, Exercises, Technique and Performance. The longer the lesson the more of these things we can fit in. Each lesson is different depending on the needs of the student. For example a newer student to singing would do more exercises and technique and a student with more skills will focus more on performance. Warmups take roughly 8-10 minutes and are a necessity for all lessons. Even if you warm up prior to the lesson, it is our duty of care to ensure a proper warmup is completed before proceeding with the lesson.

I've never sung before! Where do I start?

Well you have come to the right place! Our lessons will get the ball rolling and get you out of the shower and on to the stage! We teach technique and performance.

Can I try one class or do I have to commit to the whole term?

Off Centre Music offers a paid trial lesson. Please contact us to arrange.

How do I register for classes?

You can register on our website via the 'book a trial' button and a team member will contact you asap to confirm your class.

Am I too old to start lessons?

You are never too old! Just give it a go and you will be surprised!

What ages do you cater for?

We cater for all ages! We just need you to consider if you or your child is able to stay focused for a minimum of 30 minutes and are your prepared to help them practise at home or have time to practise yourself. Group lessons are also sectioned into age groups.
